Krka National Park

Krka is one of the Croatian national parks, named after the river Krka that it encloses. It is located in central Dalmatia, just a few kilometers northeast of the city of Šibenik.

The Krka National Park is a spacious, largely unchanged region of exceptional and multifaceted natural value, and includes one or more preserved or insignificantly altered ecosystems. It is famous for its numerous lakes and waterfalls. Inside the park is the island of Visovac, home to the Roman Catholic Visovac Monastery founded by the Franciscans in 1445. The park also includes the Serb Orthodox Monastery Krka founded in 1345.

The park is partly visited on foot as walkways take you around the lower falls and partly visited by boat.

It's main attarction is Skradinksi waterfall, created by travertine formations on the river, which is located close to the two entrances near Sibenik. It offrest nice surroundings for a walk along the footpaths and bridges and you can also take a swim in a refreshing water. Closeby the falls you can take a two-hour boat trip on the River Krka and visit some of the islands.

You can get to Krka by a car (1/2 an hour drive) or by a regular bus line from Sibenik which will take you to Skradin village from where you can take a boat to the park entarnce. The earliest boat up river is at 8 am and then every full hour. Be sure to get to Krka as early as possible - the crowds by noon are daunting.

During your stay in Krka NP you'll see few old ladies selling drinks in bottles and few other things that come from Croatia (Dalmatia). Try buy alcoholic herbal drinks (rakija) and also sweet almonds fried in water and sugar.
